Leche Hervida is a Solo Performance created in 2023. The work involves meticulous detail around all objects floor to ceiling. The foam floor is first laid below the meticulously constructed lighting rig by the artist. All of the objects in the work are created by IV Castellanos. The wearables are deconstructed during the production of this performance.

This was the first work the artist performed indoors in over a year during this current pandemic. The Radical Acts festival allowed the ability for the artist to create a structure larger than life, reinforced by the artist in real time. The construction was meant to have a quick purpose, strong enough to hold the movement, tipping, entry and exit, brittle enough to quiver under the weight of the artists body. A 4’ x 2’ x 8’ structure nestled perfectly between the ceiling grid, for the artists body to climb to the top, carve, enter and exit.

The sound of the making, the feeling of the air being pushed by the panels, the smell of the materials. the visual of the billowing sides…. with no audible text or sounds from the artist. This was an improvised movement with a constructed object by the artist.

October 23rd performance at Para\\el Performance Space

Asked the viewers to collectively build a structure. Viewers cut and assembled the structure that could hold my body as they erected. Once at the top I was able to send down a roll of caution tape asking each of them personal questions, real moments, then sent back I wrapped it around the top and on to the next.

Inspired by water and land protectors activist tripods where they rogue install a tripod at a work site or a blockade and a person holds within the structure to stop work and protest.

City Arts Corps Grant

This work is a mesh of a few performance ideas Castellanos has used over the years. A blunt force physical gesture. Body based exertion with calculated delicacy and profession as the materials are sculpted and the objects used are very familiar.

This scene I created for this piece involves all objects constructed by myself outside of the hand drill. Even the boxes the objects are placed were constructed by myself. This is an intentional attempt to shape the viewers access to this gestured work. Ambiguous gestures with no known inherent value.

Performance for TFAP Rape Representation and Radicality 2019 at the New York Hilton Midtown NYC curated by Christen Clifford and Jasmine Wahi

This action was created at Panoply Performance Lab in Brooklyn, NY. In collaboration with Esther Neff the action was created based on two objects and two tasks. 

This work was created with the Social Health Performance club at Jack performance space in Brooklyn, NY. This work IV created a box and entered the space, carved a whole and invited the audience to come near shake hands and receive a balloon. IV then carved their way out of the object.

This work was performed at the Abrons Art Center for the Queer Performance Art Festival. Social Health Performance Club was the curated group and Sad Superman was the work that IV performed. It was a 6 minute work where 5 colleagues flew IV in the space as Sad Superman.

IV created wooden boxes and invited Esther Neff to collaborate as the destroyer of each box.  This work was performed at Grace Exhibition Space

This work was performed at ABC No Rio in Manhattan, NY. The Social Health Performance Club was hosted and IV performed Brick x Brick II. IV was assisted by Esther Neff and Elizabeth Lamb in the work. They wrapped the artist's in the structure and exited following the task. 

This work was performed at Gallery Sensei with Social Health Performance Club. In this work Esther Neff and Elizabeth Lamb assisted in wrapping IV in the structure then exiting after completion.
